Hilary, Thanks for following the link and finding us here at D-solve. A very active forum that I recommend to those wanting to understand a lower or moderated carb approach to diabetes management (as well as a wealth of support) is Dr. Bernstein's Forum:

Like I said it is very active, lots of great people, and plenty of good information. Thanks again for stopping by I hope you visit frequently.

Hey Launa,
Glad you found the site--I was 4 when I got diabetes, not sure how old your son is. Be sure to check out the "how to" section as changing eating habits to be lower carb have dramatic effects on the amount of insulin required. Best of luck and keep coming back.

It is early days for me but have made a start and reduced my HbA1c from 8.7 (January 17)to 7.0 (April 28) and my weight has fallen from 14st 11 lb to 14st 0 lbs. At age 72 and diagnosed 11 years' ago, I would have liked to have known of the carbohydrate hypothesis sooner but better late than too late.

I've had T2 since 1999 and this is the 1st time I've found your site through a chance posting on Steven Sextons site (www.diabetic.org.uk) - whilst a very good and practical place to begin your understanding of DM, It has in recent months been reduced to a selection of forums. (Steven had a serious road accident just about 2 yrs ago and his recovery is a long slow process and keeping the whole site in orbit has just been that little too much).
That said there aren't any questions you can't ask that someone will know the answer or know where to find the right help.
Dsolve will almost certainly more than adequately complement what I've already learned. Now to get inspired in the exercise line and loose some of the too too solid flesh I've put on since going on Novomix 30 3yrs ago!

I am a Physiologist working in the private healthcare system in the UK. This website should be visited by everyone regardless of diabetic history as it has valuable lessons on maintaining biological homeostatsis and prevetning not just diabetes but MOST chronic disease.

Just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Found blood sugar went up when I eat grains and carbs, they just prescribed more medication.. It seemed a hopeless cycle.. I decided to take charge of my own health. Thanks for this site

Brian, Congrats on the positive results. I had a similar experience where by both my weight and A1C I knew I was on the right track. Your regret at having spent 11 years without "knowing" is also very similar to mine and was the exact reason I started this site as just another means of spreading the word since the institutions of the world are so amazingly slow at shifting their point of view. Thanks for visiting and good luck sticking with the regime. Our modern society has created a mine field of simple and refined carb temptations. Take Care, Ryan (operator of www.dsolve.com)
