Diabetes may not be "curable" but it is "solvable"--you CAN have normal blood sugars. For more details see Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.

Low Glycemic Index, Low Carbohydrate Diets in Diabetes PDF Print E-mail

This is a wonderful powerpoint presentation Low Glycemic Index, Low Carbohydrate Diets in Diabetes by Eric C. Westman, M.D  M.H.S.  of the Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in  Durham NC presented at the American Society of Bariatric Physicians on November 1, 2006.

It presents some great scientific research on the topic of GI in comparison to Low Carb diets in the management of diabetes and makes the following astutue analysis (again see the data in the presentation):

  • Very low carbohydrate diets are low glycemic diets
  • Low glycemic diets are not necessarily very low arbohydrate diets (i.e., a low glycemic index diet may still have 50% of calories from carbohydrate)
  • Effects in normals and diabetics will probably be different
  • If “low GI” is better than “high GI,” what about “no GI”
